Culture and traditions

You are here

The culture and the traditions of the Lake Land are intimately related to its people. Several rites and suggestive events, connected with the history of popular traditions and with the religious and secular rituals, take place every year in this territory; fascinating itineraries that reveal the ancient customs of past civilizations will seduce you, together with the testimonies of the long-lived people who dwell in this land; no coincidence, our territory hosts the highest percentage of centenarians in Sardinia and in the whole of Italy. You will know these places taking part fully in the inhabitants’ life, you will get in contact with their everyday experience, and you will contribute to keep the ancient traditions alive over time.

You will be fascinated by the demonstrations of fabric production with ancient looms and copper tools; you will be seduced by the refinement of the gold filigree jewels, by the prestige of clasp knives and cork and stone objects, by the multicoloured embroideries of “bertulas”, the renowned traditional saddlebags. The long agropastoral tradition that characterizes the lake region allowed the development of different and varied forms of artisanal handicraft, related to the manufacturing of textiles,  copper and wood.

Artisans make objects in exquisite taste from the simplest materials, like cork, stone and fabric, turning them into real works of art.
